My name is Tracy Ross and I am a Professional Organiser, based in St. Albans. Over the last 10 years I have supported many clients to prepare for a home move.
This includes:
1. Viewing Ready - decluttering and organising to best present a client’s home for viewings, to secure a sale.
2. Do I Really Need It? - decluttering before a move so a client does not pay to move things that they no longer need.
3. Unpack & Organise – I also offer support to unpack and organise the space in a client’s new home.

I am delighted to collaborate with the lovely team at Bradford and Howley Estate Agents to share my top tips on preparing for a home move. You may be thinking about a move once the Lockdown is over or complete an existing purchase, started before Lockdown began. There is plenty that you can do to prepare, which ever stage that you are at.
Blissfully Organised Top Tips
Preparing to move home can feel overwhelming, especially if you have a lot of possessions or if it has been many years since you last moved. Planning for the move by decluttering your home will not only make packing much easier but actually save you money (you will not be paying to move the items you no longer need).
Here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Give yourself plenty of time - I recommend that you start decluttering 6-8 weeks before your move date. This will give you enough time to review all the items in your home and decide what to keep and what to purge. Looking through memories/souvenirs from your past life can often take longer than you think.
2. Have a plan – I suggest that you start with the rooms that you use the least but are often full of things that you haven’t reviewed for some time. This is usually one or all of the following – Loft, Basement and Garage. Do not move onto the next room until you have completed the current room that you are decluttering.
3. Stay Focused – In the current room that you are decluttering create 5 piles – Those items to be packed to move to your new home, those items that are currently in the wrong room, items to give to charity, items to sell and items for the rubbish. Any items that you are planning to throw away or donate should be removed from your home straight away. I recommend that my clients put the unwanted items in their car and drop off at the tip or charity shop the same day
